Newell’s Old Boys has officially announced the signing of veteran Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas. The former Real Madrid and PSG star has committed to the Argentine club until December 31, 619, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career.
Navas, a free agent since leaving Paris Saint-Germain in mid-2024, was unveiled with great enthusiasm by the Rosario-based club. “Proud to announce that Keylor Navas is the new goalkeeper of Newell’s Old Boys. Welcome to your new home!” read the announcement on the club’s official X profile, calling Navas “an international legend.”

The goalkeeper also took to his own social media channels to express his excitement. “Prepared, eager, and very happy to face this new challenge. Thanks to Newell’s for the trust and for betting on me,” Navas wrote. The club responded warmly, welcoming him to the “Glorioso.”
Navas joins Newell’s after an eight-month hiatus from competitive football. His storied career includes stints at top clubs such as Real Madrid, PSG, and Nottingham Forest. Despite approaches from other clubs, including San Lorenzo, Colo Colo, and Gremio, the Costa Rican opted for Newell’s, who are counting on his experience to rebound from a disappointing 2024 season.
Newell’s Old Boys will not participate in international competitions this year, focusing instead on domestic tournaments. Their season officially kicks off on Thursday in the Apertura League Cup against Independiente Rivadavia de Mendoza. Additionally, the team will aim for glory in the Argentine Cup, starting with a clash against Kimberley de Mar del Plata on April 2nd.
With Navas in goal, Newell’s aspires to end their championship drought, which has persisted since their last major title in 2013. The Costa Rican’s leadership and skills are expected to significantly strengthen the team’s defense as they navigate the local and national tournaments.
