The International Bridge Administration (IBA) announced on Wednesday, June 17, that motorists traveling across the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge should prepare for lane closures throughout the summer months. The adjustments are necessary to facilitate ongoing maintenance, including the painting of the lower U.S. arch steel and essential bridge deck resurfacing.
According to bridge officials, a single-lane closure will be in effect from Monday through Thursday each week. During these periods, traffic will alternate across the bridge, managed by temporary traffic signals. All lanes are scheduled to remain open from Friday through Sunday to accommodate weekend travel volume. The project is expected to reach completion by late August.
Drivers are advised to anticipate potential delays and periodic traffic backups during the construction window. For real-time updates and detailed project information, commuters are encouraged to visit the official website at saultbridge.com.
