The Chatham County Aquatic Center served as the venue for the 2026 Peach State Championship this past weekend, marking the first time Savannah has hosted the prestigious long-course event. The competition attracted top youth swimming talent from across Georgia, as well as visiting teams from South Carolina, providing a critical platform for athletes to secure qualifying times for the upcoming state tournament.
According to WTOC, the event featured swimmers ranging from age 10 to late teens. Head Coach Bill Forrester noted that the meet serves as a vital “pre-meet” for the age group state championships, offering participants one final opportunity to refine their performances and meet rigorous qualifying standards.
“We have three local teams training at the Aquatic Center, joined by delegations from Macon, Augusta, Kings Bay, and the North Atlanta region,” Forrester stated. The event highlights the growing infrastructure of youth competitive swimming in Georgia, drawing talent from diverse regions to compete in high-stakes, long-course conditions. As the recruiting cycle continues, these performances remain essential for young swimmers aiming to advance their competitive careers at the collegiate level.
