Severe Weather Threat Remains High
Meteorologists at KCRG-TV9 have issued a ‘First Alert’ for Eastern Iowa as the region faces back-to-back rounds of severe weather through Thursday evening. A tornado watch remains in effect for significant portions of the viewing area as scattered storms develop along a cold front.
According to the latest forecast, damaging winds and large hail represent the primary threats, though isolated tornadoes remain a possibility throughout the day. Storm activity is expected to track across the state in distinct waves, with the most intense periods anticipated between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., followed by a secondary window for potential storm development between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Safety Protocols
Local authorities and KCRG weather teams are urging residents to maintain multiple methods of receiving emergency alerts. In the event of a tornado warning, officials advise moving to the lowest floor of a building, preferably a basement, and seeking shelter in interior rooms away from windows. Those in mobile homes are instructed to seek more substantial shelter immediately.
Following the passage of these weather systems, the region is expected to see a shift toward drier, more comfortable conditions by Friday, with humidity levels dropping significantly and highs near 80 degrees.
