Staggered Start Dates for 2027
The Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) has officially released the academic calendar for 2027, providing clarity for families and educators regarding school terms, holidays, and examination periods. For students entering Kindergarten 1, Primary 1, and those transitioning into secondary school, the 2027 academic year will commence on January 4.
Existing students in Kindergarten 2 and primary levels from Primary 2 through 6 will report to school on January 5. This staggered start is designed to facilitate smoother transitions for new cohorts entering the national school system.
Examination Schedules and Term Breaks
The final day of the school year for MOE kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools is scheduled for November 19, 2027. However, institutions serving as designated venues for the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate written examinations will conclude their academic year earlier, on October 29.
For junior college (JC) and Millennia Institute (MI) students, the schedule varies slightly: first-year students will begin on February 3, while second- and third-year students will start on January 11. Year-end holidays for these students will generally begin on November 27, though those sitting for A-level examinations will complete their term following their final paper.
Planning for Long Weekends
The 2027 calendar includes four major term breaks spanning March, May-June, September, and the year-end period. In addition to these breaks, the Ministry of Manpower has confirmed that Singaporeans can look forward to 11 public holidays throughout the year, with five long weekends providing opportunities for family planning and travel. Key school-specific holidays include Teachers’ Day on September 3 and Children’s Day on October 8 for primary school students.
