American tennis player Sofia Kenin has been eliminated from Wimbledon in the second round following a hard-fought battle against Amanda Anisimova. The match, which lasted over two hours, concluded with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3) victory for the sixth-seeded Anisimova.
Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open champion, pushed her opponent to the brink, notably building a 3-1 lead in the final set. Despite Kenin’s cleaner play and significantly fewer unforced errors throughout the match, Anisimova managed to shift the momentum by relying on her powerful serve. According to match reports from Tennis Now, Anisimova recorded 20 aces, including nine in the deciding set and three during the match tiebreaker.
Kenin had two break-point opportunities to extend her lead to 4-1 in the third set, but Anisimova neutralized the threat with a series of serve winners. The win allows Anisimova to advance to the third round, where she is set to face fellow American Madison Keys. For Kenin, the loss marks the end of her 2026 Wimbledon campaign despite showing flashes of the form that previously established her as a major champion.
