Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made history on Saturday by becoming the youngest player ever to represent India in international cricket. The 15-year-old received his maiden cap from Tilak Verma ahead of the second T20I against England at Old Trafford in Manchester.
By taking the field, Sooryavanshi surpassed the long-standing record of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut for India in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days. Sooryavanshi’s rapid ascent to the national team follows a dominant 2026 IPL season, where he became the first player in league history to simultaneously win the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player, and Emerging Player awards. He scored 776 runs across 16 matches with a strike rate of 230.
Born in 2011 in Bihar’s Samastipur district, Sooryavanshi has been a prodigy, recording a 58-ball century in a Youth Test against Australia in 2024. Before his senior selection, he played a pivotal role in India’s victory at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup earlier this year, scoring 175 off 80 balls in the final. His inclusion in the national squad represents a significant milestone for Indian cricket as the team looks toward its next generation of talent.
