Hostilities in Yemen have reached a critical inflection point as forces aligned with the Saudi-backed government launched a coordinated military campaign aimed at recapturing the capital, Sana’a. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the escalation, which began in earnest on September 3, 2026, has already resulted in the displacement of approximately 18,500 people across the Taiz and Hodeidah governorates. Coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Maliki confirmed that these attacks have injured 73 people, including women and children. The Saudi Ministry of Energy reported that several energy facilities in the southern part of the Kingdom were struck on Tuesday, causing significant fires and temporary operational disruptions. Satellite imagery has corroborated these reports, showing plumes of smoke rising from the Aramco refinery in Jizan.
The Saudi-led coalition has vowed to implement “deterrence” measures to counter the threat, signaling that the regional security landscape remains volatile. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned that the ongoing conflict poses a direct threat to global energy markets and critical supply chains, urging a transition from military pressure to diplomatic negotiation.
