Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Adolis Garcia exited Wednesday’s 7-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in the seventh inning due to a pulled muscle in his right shoulder. The injury occurred while Garcia attempted a defensive throw to the plate to catch Blue Jays designated hitter George Springer on a sacrifice fly.
Interim manager Don Mattingly confirmed the injury postgame, noting that Garcia will undergo imaging on Thursday to determine the severity of the muscle strain. While Garcia is currently listed as day-to-day, the team faces significant challenges in the outfield. Garcia has struggled offensively this season, currently batting .195, but remains a key defensive asset for the Phillies.
If Garcia is placed on the injured list, the team may look to call up prospects such as Otto Kemp or Felix Reyes from Lehigh Valley, though both have struggled in recent minor league outings. Alternatively, Steward Berroa is expected to see increased playing time. The injury may accelerate the Phillies’ efforts to acquire a right-handed bat before the August 3 trade deadline.
