The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of more than 500,000 packages of ready-to-eat macaroni and cheese sold at Aldi stores nationwide. The recall, initiated by manufacturer BEF Foods Inc., involves the Park St. Deli Macaroni & Cheese product line.
According to the FDA notice, the recall was prompted by the presence of undeclared soy lecithin, an ingredient that can trigger allergic reactions in consumers with soy sensitivities. While the manufacturer first issued the recall on March 23, the FDA updated the classification to a Class II recall on June 10. A Class II designation indicates that the product may cause temporary or reversible adverse health consequences.
The affected product is a 20-ounce refrigerated pasta dish sold in a paper sleeve. Consumers are urged to check their packaging for one of the following codes: SUL4839705, SUL4839706, SUL4853771, SUL4853772, SUL4854698, SUL4854700, SUL4854701, SUL4855698, SUL4855699, SUL4855700, SUL4857735, SUL4857736, SUL4857737, SUL4857784, SUL4857785, SUL4866750, SUL4866751, SUL4866752, SUL4866781, SUL4866782, SUL4866783, SUL4866784, SUL4872813, SUL4872814, SUL4872815, SUL4873787, SUL4873788, SUL4886739, SUL4886740, SUL4887698, or SUL4887699.
The FDA advises anyone who purchased these items not to consume them. Customers should return the product to their local Aldi store to receive a full refund.
