Apple has confirmed that the major software update for the Vision Pro headset, visionOS 27, will be publicly released on Monday, September 14. The announcement was made during the company’s “Surprise and shine” event, where Apple also showcased its latest hardware lineup. Ahead of the general release, 9to5Mac reported that the update is currently reaching the final stage of the development cycle as a Release Candidate (RC) build.
The Apple Post noted that the Release Candidate acts as the final version intended for the public, provided that no critical bugs are discovered during these final hours of testing. Developers enrolled in the beta program can currently access this build through the Software Update menu in their device settings. While Apple retains the ability to issue a secondary RC if significant flaws emerge, the current build signals that the initial beta testing phase is effectively complete.
Key Features and Enhancements
The visionOS 27 update introduces several interface and functionality changes aimed at increasing the immersion and utility of the Apple Vision Pro. Among the most anticipated features is the integration of Siri AI, supported by a dedicated Siri application. This update also introduces “visual intelligence,” which allows users to query information about objects or environments they are actively viewing through the headset.
Spatial computing capabilities are further refined with the ability to convert standard panoramic photos into full spatial scenes. For users seeking more variety in their virtual workspace, Apple is adding a new “Thórsmörk” built-in environment. Interface navigation is also seeing a shift, with the introduction of curved windows, extra-small widget options, and a redesigned Control Center. Accessibility and efficiency are addressed through new eye-tracking features, such as the ability to expand notifications using only eye movements.

The release of visionOS 27 coincides with a wider rollout of Apple’s operating system updates, including iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate. These updates collectively feature expanded AI-driven tools within Safari, a revamped Passwords app, and the integration of Image Playground.
