The announcement by local authorities and families marks a solemn step for the community as it prepares to mourn the sudden loss of the teenagers.

The incident occurred shortly after 4:15 AM on Sunday at Laghtadawannagh, a location on the periphery of Ballina. Both Cian Farrell and Padraic Tuffy were pronounced deceased at the scene. Three other individuals — two teenage males and an adult female, also in her late teens — were involved in the accident. They were transported by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital, where they received treatment for their injuries, according to a report by Midwest Radio.

Padraic Tuffy’s remains will repose at McGowan’s Funeral Home in Ballina on Thursday evening, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, allowing for a period of visitation. His funeral will arrive at St. Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina, on Friday morning for a Requiem Mass, also at 11:30 AM. Following the mass, he will be laid to rest in Leigue Cemetery. These arrangements were confirmed on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
