CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Azat TV) – Brandon Miller has secured his long-term future in North Carolina by signing a five-year, $209 million rookie-scale contract extension with the Charlotte Hornets. Speaking at a ceremony at the Spectrum Center, the franchise’s longest-tenured player made it clear that his focus has immediately shifted from financial security to team success, specifically targeting an end to the organization’s prolonged postseason absence.

“Our goal is the playoffs,” Miller said during the event. “We want to be known as a playoff team. And we want to win as many games as we can. We know what our identity is. We know what it takes to get there.” The Associated Press reported that the deal is the largest rookie-scale extension ever handed out by the franchise, surpassing LaMelo Ball’s five-year, $203 million agreement signed three years prior.

Franchise Stakes and Roster Turnover

Charlotte enters the new campaign carrying the weight of a painful history. The Hornets have not reached the postseason since the 2015-16 season, and it has been 24 long seasons since the franchise last won a playoff series. Executive vice president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson executed significant roster changes during the offseason, trading away key figures such as LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges following a 44-38 campaign that ended with a play-in tournament loss to the Orlando Magic.

Despite the departure of established stars, club leadership believes the revamped roster possesses the necessary experience to clear the postseason hurdle. Peterson emphasized that securing Miller’s extension before opening tip-off was an organizational priority.

New Additions and Early Season Form

To complement Miller, the front office brought in proven veterans and contributors through the offseason, including Naz Reid, Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale, and Dennis Schröder. Miller expressed strong confidence in the newcomers, noting that adding players who have previously competed at the highest levels provides a vital competitive advantage.

“I think that adding the new pieces that we have, players that have been where we want to go, to me I think that give us an advantage in the long run,” Miller noted.

The Hornets commenced their regular season schedule with a 110-103 victory over the Brooklyn Nets in New York. Naz Reid anchored the opening night win with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Miller contributed 18 points in his first appearance since finalizing his lucrative extension, though he experienced an uneven shooting night, finishing 3 of 14 from beyond the arc and being limited to a single point in the second half.

Building for the Long Term

Peterson lauded Miller’s unrelenting work ethic and internal drive, acknowledging that the massive financial commitment carries heightened accountability. As the player tasked with leading the club forward, Miller understands that expectations have escalated significantly.

“When he signed, I told him, now it really starts because there is even more responsibility for him to get better and push himself and push his teammates and help us reach our full potential,” Peterson stated regarding the franchise cornerstone.
