A Career-Defining Victory in Shanghai

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina clinched the biggest title of his career on Sunday, overcoming a dominant start from his fellow Spaniard, Rafael Jodar, to win the Shanghai Masters final. The 25th-seeded Davidovich Fokina battled back from a set down to secure a 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 victory at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, as reported by Devdiscourse. The match, which lasted two hours and 27 minutes, marks a significant milestone for the 27-year-old, who is projected to return to the world’s top 20 in the ATP rankings on Monday.

Turning the Tide

The 20-year-old Jodar, the youngest finalist in the history of the Shanghai tournament, initially dictated play with a blistering start. He broke serve twice to take the opening set 6-1. However, Davidovich Fokina began to find his rhythm in the second set. According to Dubai Eye 1038, the veteran recovered from an early break and successfully saved break points across three consecutive service games. His ability to edge out a tight tiebreak proved to be the match’s turning point, allowing him to force a decider. In the third set, Davidovich Fokina broke the 12th-seeded Jodar twice to seal the championship.
