Severe thunderstorms swept across North Texas on Friday, June 19, 2026, forcing a temporary ground stop at DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field. According to flight tracking data from FlightAware, the extreme weather resulted in the cancellation of nearly 400 flights at DFW and an additional 65 at Love Field.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for Dallas, Collin, and Denton counties throughout the morning as the region experienced heavy downpours, with some areas recording up to 5 inches of rain. The sudden flooding created significant operational challenges for ground crews and airport logistics, leading to the widespread disruption of air travel.

Beyond the airports, the storm system caused extensive damage across the region. Dallas Fire-Rescue reported responding to 76 calls involving vehicles stranded in high water, multiple water rescues, and several structure fires. Utility provider Oncor reported power outages affecting approximately 24,000 customers across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex as of midday Friday.

While the ground stop was lifted later in the day as the storms moved out of the area, the ripple effects of the cancellations continued to impact regional travel schedules. Forecasters have warned that while the immediate flood threat has subsided, the region will transition into a period of extreme heat and humidity throughout the weekend, with heat index values expected to exceed 105 degrees.
