Official Denial from Dubai

The Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) officially denied reports on Thursday regarding explosions heard in downtown Dubai. The statement came in response to circulating claims, including a Reuters report that cited witnesses describing loud booms in the city center.

The GDMO characterized the reports as “false” and urged the public and media outlets to rely exclusively on official government sources for accurate information, warning against the spread of unverified rumors during a period of heightened regional instability.

Context of Regional Conflict

The incident occurred amid a significant uptick in regional hostilities. On Thursday, US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that it had initiated a fifth consecutive night of airstrikes targeting locations within Iran. Simultaneously, Iranian state broadcasters, including the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), reported that US projectiles had struck areas near Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island.

While the Hormozgan Governorate reported no injuries or damages from the strikes, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) escalated rhetoric, claiming that explosions had also occurred in Abu Dhabi. Iran has previously threatened nations in the Middle East that host US military infrastructure. The UAE currently hosts US forces at Al Dhafra Air Base, located south of Abu Dhabi.

Broader Military Tensions

The situation remains volatile, with Iran claiming to have launched “Arash” suicide drones against US radar and missile defense facilities in Bahrain earlier on Thursday. Additionally, Iranian state media alleged that their air defense systems downed a US MQ-9A Reaper drone over Khuzestan Province, a claim that has not been corroborated by the US military.

As the conflict continues, regional nations such as Kuwait and Bahrain have reported defensive measures against drone attacks. The GDMO’s firm denial serves as a strategic attempt to maintain public order in the UAE, which has faced renewed diplomatic and security pressures since the resumption of hostilities between Washington and Tehran last week.
