Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways is reportedly nearing a deal to acquire 10 additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners. According to reports cited by Reuters, the UAE flag carrier could formalize the order as early as this month during the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom.
While neither Boeing nor Etihad has officially confirmed the agreement, the potential acquisition underscores the airline’s long-term growth strategy. Despite regional operational pressures faced earlier this year, the carrier remains committed to expanding its widebody fleet. Etihad currently operates 47 Dreamliners, including 37 of the 787-9 variant and 10 of the larger 787-10s, with an additional 23 aircraft already on order.
Data from Cirium indicates the importance of these aircraft to the airline’s network, with the 787 fleet currently serving major international hubs including Chicago, Frankfurt, Milan, and Beijing. Industry analysts note that major trade events like Farnborough serve as strategic venues for such announcements, though official confirmation remains pending.
