Essex County Cricket Club batter Robin Das has been charged with two counts of rape, the Metropolitan Police confirmed. The 24-year-old, who resides on Queens Road in Waltham Forest, is scheduled to appear at Inner London Crown Court on 9 October 2026. According to the BBC, the charges stem from an investigation into an alleged incident involving a woman in Brixton on 30 March 2024.
Das was initially arrested on 27 August 2025 in connection with the reports. Following the formal charging process on 23 July 2026, the Metropolitan Police stated that the complainant continues to receive support from specialist officers as the legal process moves toward the court appearance.
Club Suspension and Status
Essex County Cricket Club has confirmed that Das has been placed under an immediate and ongoing suspension. The club noted in a formal statement that the charges relate to an incident occurring outside of club activities. Essex stated they have been in regular communication with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA), and the Cricket Regulator regarding the player’s status.
“As a club we have strict safeguarding and HR procedures in place, and all employees of Essex County Cricket Club are required to meet the highest standards of professional conduct at all times,” the club said, as reported by The Telegraph. Robin Das has been a professional fixture at Essex since his debut in 2020. Over his career, he has accumulated nine first-class appearances, 29 games in 50-over cricket, and 24 T20 matches. His most recent senior appearance for Essex was on 21 July 2026, during a One-Day Cup match against Middlesex, just two days before he was formally charged. He had previously signed a contract extension in late 2025, intended to keep him with the club through the end of the 2026 season.
