A 26-year-old woman has died following a two-car collision on the A170 in North Yorkshire. According to North Yorkshire Police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29, 2026, between Wrelton and Pickering.

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 01:30 BST after a white Volkswagen Polo and a black Audi A4, which were travelling in opposite directions, collided. The driver of the Volkswagen Polo was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Five occupants of the Audi A4 were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police confirmed that their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. The A170 remained closed for several hours throughout Wednesday morning as collision investigators conducted a forensic examination of the site and cleared the wreckage.

North Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Officers are currently appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time or anyone who possesses dashcam footage that could assist with their inquiries to contact them. The force has requested that members of the public come forward with any information that might clarify the events leading up to the collision.
