Christopher Michael Alsup, 39, a former correctional officer with the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, appeared in federal court on Thursday for an arraignment on a new charge of distributing child pornography. The development comes via a superseding indictment that adds to a series of serious federal and state cases against the Wynne, Arkansas, resident.
Alsup was originally indicted in September 2023 on 18 federal counts, including four counts of attempted production and 14 counts of receipt or distribution of child pornography. These initial charges stem from alleged activities occurring between January and April 2023. Following Thursday’s hearing before Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Jerome Kearney, Alsup was remanded to state custody.
Beyond the federal proceedings, Alsup faces a significant array of charges in the Cross County Circuit Court. These include eight counts of rape, 28 counts involving the distribution, possession, or viewing of materials depicting child sexual abuse, as well as single counts of computer exploitation of a child and engaging a child in sexually explicit conduct. Records indicate he is currently being held in the White County jail on a $1.25 million bond.
The federal trial is scheduled to commence on August 25 before U.S. District Judge D. Price Marshall Jr. at the E.C. Gathings Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Jonesboro. Alsup is represented by defense attorneys John Wesley Hall Jr., Michael Kiel Kaiser, and Cassidy Smith, while Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kristin Bryant and Stacy Williams are prosecuting the case.
