Netflix has announced that the 2003 psychological horror film Gothika, featuring prominent performances by Halle Berry and Robert Downey Jr., will be added to its streaming library on September 1, 2026. According to reporting from What’s on Netflix and ComingSoon.net, the film’s arrival marks a return for the title to major streaming platforms.
Directed by Mathieu Kassovitz from a script by Sebastian Gutierrez, the film follows Dr. Miranda Grey, a psychiatrist played by Berry, who finds herself inexplicably detained as a patient in the very hospital where she serves as a doctor. The plot centers on her struggle to prove her innocence after being accused of her husband’s murder, a journey complicated by supernatural occurrences and the discovery of hidden institutional secrets. Robert Downey Jr. portrays her colleague, Dr. Pete Graham, while the supporting cast includes Penelope Cruz, John Carroll Lynch, and Charles S. Dutton.

Despite its commercial performance, the film received mixed critical reception upon release, currently holding a 15% critics’ score and a 45% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
