Top-ranked Jannik Sinner secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Cam Norrie at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic in London on Wednesday, marking a positive return to form ahead of his Wimbledon title defense. The match took place as southern England faces a severe heatwave, with temperatures in Fulham reaching 33 C.
Sinner, who famously suffered a physical collapse during a second-round loss at the French Open last month, told reporters that he has undergone medical testing to identify the cause of his previous dizziness. “We did some testing. We tried to understand what happened,” Sinner stated. “We came to a conclusion which is very good.”
The current heatwave, which has prompted a “red warning” from the UK’s national weather service, has impacted operations at the All England Club. During the Wimbledon qualifying tournament, officials suspended the use of ball boys and ball girls, replacing them with adult staff from the Court Services team. A temporary power outage at the Roehampton qualifying venue, which disrupted electronic line-calling systems, is also being investigated for a potential link to the extreme temperatures.
Sinner, who won his first Wimbledon title last year by defeating Carlos Alcaraz, enters the tournament without any tour-level grass-court matches this season. Despite the challenging conditions on Wednesday, the Italian star reported feeling physically sound as he prepares for the tournament start on Monday, when temperatures are expected to drop to a more manageable 24 C.
