  • NBA champion Kyle Kuzma criticized Barack Obama's remarks at a Michigan Senate campaign rally.
  • Obama highlighted the religious backgrounds of Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed and Sen. Elissa Slotkin.
  • Kuzma argued that Michigan voters are far more concerned with poverty and the cost of living.

Milwaukee Bucks forward and NBA champion Kyle Kuzma publicly challenged former President Barack Obama’s remarks during an election rally held in Michigan on Saturday, October 25, 2026. Fox News reported that the event featured Obama endorsing Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who is running against Republican candidate Mike Rogers, alongside Senator Elissa Slotkin.

During the rally, Obama highlighted El-Sayed, who is Muslim, and Slotkin, who is Jewish, describing them as a potential “power duo” in the Senate while emphasizing their respective religious backgrounds. The appearance was designed to energize voters in a tightly contested state where margins remain narrow ahead of the November 3 election.

Kuzma Pushes Back Over Economic Realities

Kuzma, who was born and raised in Flint, Michigan, took to social media platform X to express strong frustration with the campaign messaging. He argued that identity-based appeals do not address the severe economic challenges facing residents across the state.

“This desperate psyop is unbearable to watch in Michigan, so tired of listening to it,” Kuzma wrote on X, as cited by Fox News. He pointed out that one in four Black residents in Michigan live below the poverty line, questioning why a religious identity pitch was being prioritized when voters are dealing with cost-of-living pressures.

Kuzma further emphasized that the local population of both Muslims and Jews stands at approximately one percent each, arguing that such rhetoric fails to resonate with the practical everyday concerns of local working families.

Polling Data and Voter Priorities in Michigan

The political landscape in Michigan remains fiercely competitive as the November 3 election approaches. A Fox News poll conducted on September 30 indicated that El-Sayed held a narrow one-point lead over Rogers.

According to the same polling data, voters identified the cost of living as an extremely important factor in their voting decisions. Additional key issues influencing the electorate include immigration, national economic policies, and U.S. policy toward Israel. With both campaigns making final pushes to secure voter turnout, candidates are navigating an electorate closely divided on economic fundamentals.

Rogers previously ran against Slotkin in 2024 for the Senate seat, while President Donald Trump won the state by less than two percentage points in prior voting cycles, underscoring the enduring battleground status of Michigan as campaigns enter their final stretch.
