A New Stage Adaptation at Sea
Composer Lin-Manuel Miranda has officially announced the first stage adaptation of the 2021 animated hit Encanto, which will debut aboard Disney Cruise Line’s newest vessel, The Disney Believe. The production is scheduled to begin performances on December 18, 2027, as the ship embarks on its inaugural voyages from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, toward the Caribbean and the Bahamas, according to Playbill.
In a statement shared via Instagram, Miranda expressed his enthusiasm for the project, noting that seeing Mirabel’s journey and the vibrant culture of Colombia translated into live performance, music, and dance is a special milestone for the film’s legacy. The stage production will feature the film’s breakout musical hits, including “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” and “Surface Pressure,” which became global phenomena following the movie’s release.
Expanded Entertainment Offerings
The Disney Believe is set to offer a robust lineup of entertainment alongside the Encanto production. The ship will feature a musical adaptation of Tangled and the original variety show Disney Seas the Adventure, which incorporates characters from across the Disney and Marvel cinematic universes. Additionally, the cruise ship will include an interactive games center themed after the Zootopia franchise.
For fans of Miranda’s work, this new production adds to existing options within the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Currently, a stage show based on Moana is available to guests aboard the Disney Treasure, which also operates routes departing from Florida to the Caribbean.
