PTPTN Scholarship Program Expanded to 10,000 Students

The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has announced an expansion of its ‘PTPTN Baek’ scholarship programme, now set to support 10,000 students from low-income families. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir confirmed that the allocation has been increased to RM210 million, a significant rise from the initial RM120 million budget allocation.

Recipients must be registered in the eKasih database and enrolled in full-time diploma or bachelor’s degree programmes. The scholarship offers annual support ranging from RM4,750 for diploma students to RM6,650 for science degree candidates.

Sports: Li Jane Leads US Women’s Open, Hockey Team Struggles

In professional bowling, Malaysia’s Sin Li Jane has taken the lead at the US Women’s Open in Indianapolis. Currently, at the halfway stage, Li Jane holds a 164-pin advantage over her closest rival, Diana Zavjalova. Li Jane, the 2024 champion, is aiming for her second title in three years.

Meanwhile, the national men’s hockey team faces a difficult path in the Nations Cup in Cape Town. Following a 4-1 loss to Japan and a recent drop to 15th in world rankings, coach Brendon Carolan’s squad must secure wins against New Zealand and South Korea to reach the semi-finals.

Severe Weather Warnings

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued alerts for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds across nine states and Kuala Lumpur. Affected areas include Kedah, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Sarawak, and Sabah. Residents are advised to stay alert as these conditions are expected to persist throughout the day.
