A Malaysian tour group visiting Xi’an, China, has faced significant backlash after ordering approximately 1,200 parcels via the e-commerce platform Taobao to their hotel. The incident came to light after the group’s travel agency shared a video on the social media platform Xiaohongshu, which showed hotel staff struggling to manage the overwhelming volume of deliveries.
According to reports from China Press, the footage depicted hundreds of packages piled high in the hotel lobby and at the front desk. In one segment, a member of the tour group was observed dragging a large plastic bag containing nearly 50 parcels toward her room. The video, which has since been removed by the agency, triggered a wave of criticism from Chinese social media users.
Commenters labeled the behavior as inconsiderate, noting that hotel employees were forced to work overtime to sort and distribute the massive influx of deliveries. “The staff are not your personal parcel managers,” one user remarked, echoing widespread sentiment that the group’s shopping habits placed an unfair burden on service workers. While the travel agency has not issued a formal apology, the incident has sparked a broader conversation regarding tourist etiquette and the impact of large-scale e-commerce deliveries on hospitality operations.
