Quick Read

  • Xenoblade Genesis announced for 2027 release on Nintendo Switch 2.
  • The game features a new setting called ‘Leukos’ and a ‘Vesselai’ protagonist.
  • Original Xenoblade trilogy titles are being ported to Switch 2 with 4K and 60fps support.

A New Beginning for the Franchise

During the Nintendo Direct showcase on June 9, 2026, Nintendo and developer Monolith Soft officially unveiled Xenoblade Genesis. Described by the developers as a “new beginning” for the long-running RPG series, the title is confirmed as an exclusive for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, with a planned release window of 2027.

Gameplay and Setting

Initial footage reveals a departure from the established aesthetics of the Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy. The game centers on the setting of “Leukos,” which appears to function as an academic institution. The protagonist, a “Vesselai,” wields Anima powers—governing fire, water, and wind—facilitated by a “Crystone” embedded in her sword. This stone serves a dual purpose: amplifying combat abilities and recording the protagonist’s experiences and thoughts.

The trailer showcases expansive environments consistent with the series’ reputation for scale, including verticality and diverse mythical elements such as dragons and a sky featuring six suns.

Back-Catalog Support

In addition to the new entry, Nintendo confirmed that the original Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy is being ported to the Switch 2. These updated versions will support 4K resolution in TV mode and 60fps performance, with select titles receiving new content, including high-speed overworld vehicles and additional battle modes. These legacy titles are scheduled for staggered digital and physical releases throughout the remainder of 2026.
