GLASGOW (Azat TV) – Omniplex has officially launched a recruitment drive for its flagship Renfrew Street site in Glasgow, signaling a decisive move toward reopening the venue, which holds the title of the world’s tallest cinema. The Irish-owned cinema chain is currently seeking a permanent, full-time general manager at a £43,000 salary, alongside a broader team to manage the 18-screen complex ahead of its scheduled mid-2026 reopening.

Omniplex Recruitment Drive and Strategic Staffing

The company is looking for a dynamic leader to oversee the landmark site, which was previously occupied by Cineworld for two decades. According to official company advertisements, the incoming general manager will be tasked with managing a premium guest experience across the venue’s multiple floors. This recruitment phase marks the transition from the site’s acquisition by Clydebankbridge Ltd—an Omniplex subsidiary—to the active operational phase of the business. The search for a general manager is expected to be followed by a comprehensive series of listings for front-of-house and operational roles.

Upgrading the World’s Tallest Cinema

Omniplex has confirmed a major renovation project to revitalize the historic structure. The planned upgrades include the installation of fully reclining seating in all auditoriums, alongside the introduction of three giant “OmniplexMAXX” screens equipped with Barco 4K Laser projection and Dolby Atmos sound systems. Beyond the technical enhancements, the venue will feature a unique culinary addition: a 23-foot airstream trailer dubbed Joe’s Food Truck, intended to service patrons within the complex.

The Stakes for Glasgow’s Entertainment Sector

The reopening of the Renfrew Street site is viewed as a significant development for Glasgow’s city center economy. Paul John Anderson, director of Omniplex Cinemas, emphasized the site’s status as a cornerstone of the UK cinema industry, noting that the firm is integrating the historic location into its wider family of theaters. By securing a management team now, the company aims to ensure that the site’s complex infrastructure is fully operational and staffed well before the mid-2026 launch window.

The aggressive timeline for hiring and renovation suggests that Omniplex is positioning the Glasgow venue to capture a significant share of the premium cinema market, banking on the site’s unique architectural legacy to distinguish itself from standard multiplex offerings.
