A defining chapter closes at The Racecourse
Wrexham AFC has officially confirmed the departure of striker Paul Mullin following the mutual termination of his contract on June 26, 2026. The 31-year-old, who became the face of the club’s rapid ascent under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, leaves as a free agent after five seasons in North Wales.
Mullin’s record at the club is statistically and culturally significant, with 110 goals in 172 appearances. He ranks as the ninth-highest goalscorer in Wrexham’s history and was a central figure in the team’s three consecutive promotions, which propelled the club from the National League to the EFL Championship.
Manager Phil Parkinson expressed his gratitude for Mullin’s service, stating, “This settlement enables him to take his time and find the right club for him, going forward. He’ll be a player always remembered and revered by our supporters.”
Legacy and the Hollywood era
Mullin’s time at Wrexham became synonymous with the club’s global profile increase. Beyond his scoring tally—which included 38 league goals during the 2022-23 promotion campaign—he became a cultural figure through the Welcome to Wrexham documentary. His public advocacy for autism awareness, inspired by his son Albi, and his high-profile cameos in film projects linked to the club’s ownership, solidified his status as a cult hero.
However, the latter part of his tenure was marked by physical setbacks. Following back surgery in 2024 and a difficult season spent on loan at Wigan Athletic and Bradford City, Mullin struggled to reclaim his starting spot in Parkinson’s rejigged tactical system. The club’s progression into the Championship necessitated a shift in attacking personnel, leading to his eventual exit.
As a free agent, Mullin enters the transfer market with a proven track record of delivering under pressure. While his recent form has been limited by injuries, his historical contribution to Wrexham’s revival ensures his place in the club’s folklore remains secure.
