Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah has begun a trial period with Championship side Charlton Athletic, according to reporting by the Yorkshire Post and South London Sport. The 31-year-old is currently a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Hillsborough at the end of June.
Chalobah’s departure from Sheffield Wednesday marks the end of a two-year tenure at the club, during which he was significantly hampered by recurring injury issues. Despite his limited impact on the pitch—recording only 31 appearances for the Owls—he maintained a positive relationship with the club’s staff and supporters, publicly thanking them in a farewell message in May.
Following his release, Chalobah participated in pre-season training sessions with Henrik Pedersen’s squad, leading to speculation regarding a potential new deal. Pedersen had previously acknowledged that the club was evaluating its next steps and considered the midfielder an interesting candidate for the roster. However, Chalobah has now sought opportunities elsewhere, featuring for Charlton Athletic in their 2-0 friendly victory over Colchester United on July 28. During the match, he played 65 minutes under the leadership of Nathan Jones.
