Investigation Overview
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into Paul Pelosi, the 86-year-old husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, following an alleged hit-and-run incident in Yountville, California. Authorities confirmed that the case has been referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for potential prosecution.
Incident Details
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Friday when Pelosi allegedly struck a parked vehicle. A witness reported that the driver paused briefly after the collision before leaving the scene. Deputies later located Pelosi in a brown convertible that had become disabled. Investigators have confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the incident, as preliminary tests returned negative results.
Licensing and Legal Stakes
In addition to the potential criminal referral, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office has submitted a request to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for a driver recertification exam. This process typically evaluates a driver’s skills, traffic law knowledge, and vision. Should Pelosi fail any portion of this assessment, his California driver’s license could be subject to revocation.
The Pelosi family has addressed the incident through a spokesperson, stating that Paul Pelosi has apologized to the owner of the damaged vehicle and intends to take full responsibility for the repairs. Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi has declined to comment on the ongoing private matter.
