Plato Racing Ltd, the entity behind the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) team Cataclean Plato Racing, officially entered administration on August 12, 2026. The move comes just one week after the team achieved its first outright BTCC victory at Knockhill, a result that marked a significant milestone for the newly established operation.
According to documents filed and public marketing materials from Pantera Valuation Services, the team is currently being offered for sale. Joint administrators are overseeing the process, which encompasses the team’s intellectual property, competitive race cars, operational infrastructure, and commercial sponsorship contracts. Interested parties have been given a tight deadline to register their interest, with the administrators aiming for a swift sale by August 25, 2026.
Financial performance and operational challenges
The decision to enter administration follows a period of intense financial pressure. Financial records reveal that since its inception, the team has recorded total overheads of £1,380,170 against a turnover of £545,073. This has resulted in an operating loss of £835,097. Despite these fiscal hurdles, the team has managed to establish a competitive presence on the track, fielding two Mercedes-AMG A35s.
The team’s on-track performance had recently peaked at the Knockhill circuit, where driver Adam Morgan secured a race win, followed by a 1-2 finish for the team alongside teammate Daniel Rowbottom. These results saw both drivers solidify their positions in the top ten of the overall drivers’ championship standings.
Future of the racing program
Despite the administrative status, the team is still scheduled to compete in the upcoming BTCC rounds at Donington Park on August 22-23, 2026. The administrators are positioning the team as an “attractive opportunity” for potential buyers, highlighting the existing engineering personnel, established commercial relationships, and the team’s proven capability to compete at the front of the grid.
The future of the operation remains uncertain as the August 25 sale deadline approaches. The potential acquisition offers a buyer the chance to take over a turnkey motorsport platform, but the financial scale of the losses incurred during the team’s initial phase of development will likely be a primary consideration for any prospective investor.
