Attorneys representing Selena Gomez have characterized a new fraud lawsuit filed against her mental health startup, Wondermind, as “completely meritless.” The legal action, initiated last Thursday by Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC, accuses the singer, along with her mother, Mandy Teefey, and co-founder Daniella Pierson, of misleading investors regarding the company’s operations.
The plaintiffs are seeking approximately $1.2 million in damages. The lawsuit alleges that the founders failed to deliver on promises that Gomez would be “intimately involved” in the business, claiming that the startup’s internal initiatives failed to materialize and that the application was never fully developed. Furthermore, the investors contend they were kept in the dark regarding internal management struggles, including reports of delayed employee payments, until public reporting highlighted the company’s working conditions.
In response to the filing, Mathew S. Rosengart, counsel for Gomez, issued a firm statement on Saturday. “The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported ‘fraud’ or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally,” Rosengart stated. He confirmed that the defense team is currently preparing a motion to dismiss the claims, asserting that the allegations lack any basis in fact or law. Mandy Teefey has similarly denied the accusations, echoing the defense’s position that the lawsuit is without merit.
Wondermind was launched in 2021 with the stated goal of providing a digital space for mental health support, featuring daily content and community engagement. The current legal challenge marks a significant escalation in the tensions between the founders and their initial investors, shifting the matter from private dispute to public litigation.
