Active Enforcement Measures
Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has initiated a series of enforcement operations following the introduction of updated regulations for personal mobility aids (PMA) on June 1, 2026. Enforcement officers have been actively patrolling high-traffic areas, including Yishun, to ensure user compliance with the new safety standards.
According to an LTA report released on June 9, officers have engaged with at least 25 PMA users to educate them on approved device usage and safety requirements. The agency emphasizes that these measures are critical to maintaining public safety on shared pathways.
Retailer Compliance and Impoundment
The LTA’s crackdown is not limited to individual users. During recent inspections, authorities identified an errant retailer selling non-compliant devices. Three units were impounded as a result of three identified offenses. This follows a broader trend of regulatory tightening; in May 2026 alone, the LTA recorded 236 offenses and impounded 77 non-compliant active mobility devices.
The LTA reiterated that possession of non-UL2272-certified personal mobility devices (PMDs) remains an offense. First-time offenders face significant penalties, including a fine of up to S$2,000, a jail term of up to three months, or both. The public is encouraged to verify device compliance through official government channels.
