Lucasfilm has released the first official trailer for Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi, the latest installment in the animated anthology series. The project, set to premiere on Disney+ on August 5, 2026, has drawn significant attention due to a final shot in the trailer featuring a lightsaber that shifts from blue to a distinct black-and-white appearance, visually mimicking the iconic Darksaber.
While the Darksaber was reportedly destroyed during the events of The Mandalorian Season 3, the blade in The Ninth Jedi is a separate entity within the non-canon Visions universe. According to the trailer, this shift in color is tied to the internal state of the wielder. A line of dialogue confirms that the lightsabers in this series are forged by Lord Zhima and “reflect the user’s heart.”
This narrative mechanic suggests that the color change indicates a moral transition or a shift in the wielder’s alignment with the Force, rather than the traditional Kyber crystal lore established in the primary Star Wars canon. The Ninth Jedi continues the anthology’s tradition of allowing independent animation studios to interpret the Star Wars galaxy through unique visual and storytelling lenses.
