Ongoing Highway Construction in Summit County

Drivers in Summit County, Ohio, are facing a complex web of infrastructure projects as the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) continues a series of major highway and bridge improvements. According to the latest traffic advisories, multiple interstate and state route projects are scheduled to impact regional traffic flow through late 2026, with some major bridge replacements stretching into 2028.

Major Interstate Impacts

Interstate 77 remains a primary focus of current construction. Northbound lanes between Waterloo Road and Lovers Lane are experiencing occasional restrictions due to ongoing noise wall installations, with completion expected by late fall 2026. Simultaneously, the widening project between Ghent Road and Everett Road in Fairlawn and Bath Township continues to necessitate lane closures as crews work to expand capacity.

The I-277/U.S. Route 224 corridor is also undergoing significant structural work. The ramp from I-77 northbound to I-277/U.S. 224 westbound is currently reduced to a single lane through early September. Furthermore, bridge deck repairs on I-277/U.S. 224 over I-77 have reduced traffic to one lane in each direction, a project that is not slated for completion until June 2028.

New Restrictions on I-480

A new impact has been reported on I-480 in Hudson and Twinsburg. The highway over Stow Road is now reduced to a single lane in both directions daily between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. through late August. Additionally, Stow Road itself remains closed under the I-480 bridge until mid-November, with motorists directed to use a detour via Old Mill Road, Ravenna Road, and Middleton Road.

State Route Bridge Replacements

Akron’s State Route 8 remains the site of a major bridge replacement project with a long-term horizon. Traffic is currently diverted onto the new southbound bridge in both directions. Several ramp closures associated with this project, including connections at Perkins Street and Glenwood Avenue, are scheduled to remain in effect through late 2028. Elsewhere, State Route 91 in Munroe Falls is closed between River Road and Munroe Falls Avenue through mid-October for bridge replacement, with a detour established via State Routes 261, 8, and 59.

Regional Maintenance and Safety

Beyond major highway work, several smaller projects are impacting local traffic. State Route 261 is undergoing resurfacing and bridge repairs, while the Highland Road and Valley View Road intersection in Macedonia is seeing lane restrictions due to widening efforts. ODOT continues to advise that all project timelines are weather-dependent and subject to change.
