Four Air Force Reserve wings successfully concluded the Strategic Combat Agile Readiness (SCAR) exercise, a comprehensive training initiative held from August 2 to 14, 2026. The participating units—the 349th Air Mobility Wing, 446th Airlift Wing, 514th Airlift Wing, and 927th Air Refueling Wing—operated across three geographically separated sites: Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Georgia, and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and March ARB in California.

The exercise focused on the “Multi-capable Airman” (MCA) concept, which requires personnel to perform tasks outside their primary Air Force Specialty Codes (AFSC) to ensure operational flexibility. Throughout the two-week period, Airmen were evaluated on critical mission requirements, including airfield damage recovery, integrated base defense, passenger and cargo processing, and personnel accountability under simulated high-stress contingency conditions.

Senior Master Sgt. Stephanie Greer, the SCAR exercise control group director, emphasized the necessity of the training, noting that the objective is to ensure personnel are prepared for potential high-end threats. “We like to say ‘we sweat in training so we don’t bleed in war,’ and that’s exactly what we’re doing here,” Greer stated.

The 4th Air Force Inspector General office, supported by Wing Inspector Teams (WIT) from across the Reserve enterprise, assessed the units’ ability to integrate their disparate capabilities into a cohesive forward operating base. Tech. Sgt. Ivan Ramirez, a Security Forces instructor and WIT member, highlighted the cross-training benefits, noting that the exercise provided a unique opportunity for Airmen from different fields to learn and support security operations, ultimately increasing the readiness of the entire force.
