British tennis player Cameron Norrie has emphatically ended a six-match losing streak, securing his first semi-final appearance of the 2026 season at the Los Cabos Open. Norrie delivered a clinical performance, dismantling lucky loser Bernard Tomic with a 6-1, 6-0 scoreline in just 50 minutes.
The victory marks a significant turning point for the fifth-seeded Briton, who had struggled for momentum following difficult exits at the French Open and Wimbledon. Norrie admitted that overtraining earlier in the season contributed to his slump, but credited his recent success to a simplified approach on the court.
Tactical Dominance
After dropping the opening game of the match, Norrie surged ahead, winning 12 consecutive games to seal the quarter-final victory. According to match reports, the Briton was particularly effective in his return game, keeping Tomic under constant pressure and dictating play from the baseline.
“I’m pleased with the result,” Norrie said following the match. “I was very solid, I returned well, I made a lot of tough balls when I needed to, and I kept him moving. It was a while for me to get my confidence back. To get a win here meant a lot.”
The Road Ahead
Norrie now advances to the semi-finals, where he will face defending champion Denis Shapovalov. The Canadian secured his spot in the final four after defeating Dalibor Svrcina in straight sets. The match is set to be a significant test for Norrie, as he acknowledges the high level of confidence Shapovalov is currently playing with.
“He’s obviously the defending champion, so he likes the conditions a lot,” Norrie noted. “When he’s confident, he’s one of the toughest guys in the world to play. But I’m going to focus on myself.”
The other side of the draw features Hong Kong’s Coleman Wong against Frenchman Arthur Gea, the latter of whom caused an upset by defeating the third-seeded Francisco Cerundolo.
