CHITWAN (Azat TV) – At least thirty people sustained injuries on Sunday morning following a triple-vehicle collision involving two passenger buses and a freight truck in Nepal’s Chitwan district. The accident occurred at Jalbire, a point along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section, which serves as a critical transport corridor connecting the capital, Kathmandu, with the southern plains and the Indian border. According to the District Police Office, the incident took place when a bus traveling from Narayangadh toward Muglin attempted to overtake a truck moving in the same direction. During the maneuver, the bus collided with another passenger bus coming from the opposite direction.

Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the collision to transport the victims to local medical facilities. Official reports confirm that out of the 30 injured individuals, 21 are currently receiving treatment at Chitwan Medical College, while the remaining nine were admitted to Purano Medical College. Medical staff have indicated that one of the passengers remains in serious condition, requiring intensive care, while the others are being monitored for various degrees of trauma. The collision caused significant damage to the front sections of both buses, highlighting the force of the impact on the narrow highway.

The Narayangadh-Muglin road is often described as the ‘lifeline’ of Nepal’s road network, handling the bulk of the country’s cargo and passenger traffic. However, the section near Jalbire is known for its challenging terrain and high traffic density, which frequently leads to congestion and safety risks during overtaking maneuvers. Following the accident, the District Police Office reported that traffic was halted for several hours as recovery teams worked to clear the wreckage. Once the damaged vehicles were removed and the debris cleared, the highway was reopened to two-way traffic, allowing hundreds of stranded vehicles to resume their journeys toward their respective destinations. Authorities have initiated a further investigation into the driver’s conduct during the overtaking attempt to determine if additional safety violations contributed to the crash.
