A significant power outage struck west Ottawa on Monday morning, leaving more than 28,000 customers without electricity. According to Hydro Ottawa, the disruption began shortly after 7:30 a.m. and impacted a wide region stretching from the Ottawa River south to Manotick, including the communities of Nepean, Bells Corners, Kanata, and Barrhaven.
While the exact cause of the outage remains under investigation, Hydro Ottawa’s outage map indicated that service was largely restored across the affected areas before 9 a.m. Residual issues remained for approximately 3,500 customers in smaller pockets, including Beaverbrook, Dunrobin, Carp, and Stittsville, as of 8:40 a.m.
This incident follows a series of safety patrols conducted by Hydro Ottawa over the weekend. The utility provider had been inspecting infrastructure for damage following record-breaking rainfall and flooding that occurred on Canada Day. Hydro Ottawa previously cautioned that crews might need to temporarily disconnect power to specific properties if storm-related damage to customer-owned electrical equipment is identified, requiring repairs by a certified electrician to ensure safety.
