Hyundai has officially unveiled the fifth-generation 2027 Tucson in Paju, South Korea, marking a significant evolution for its best-selling compact SUV. Measuring 4,700 mm in length with a 2,785 mm wheelbase, the new model is 60 mm longer and 40 mm wider than its predecessor, a shift intended to position the vehicle more competitively in a segment where buyers increasingly prioritize cabin space. Performance and Powertrain Updates
The 2027 Tucson lineup focuses on 1.6-litre turbocharged powertrains. The hybrid variant features a next-generation system delivering a combined 245 hp, a 10 hp increase over the previous generation. The petrol-only model now produces 193 hp and replaces the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic, a move aimed at improving driving refinement. Guide Auto Web reports that while the hybrid system yields improved fuel efficiency, the petrol model’s shift to the eight-speed automatic has resulted in a slight reduction in fuel economy compared to the outgoing version.
Digital Transformation: Pleos Connect and Gleo AI
The interior marks a departure from traditional infotainment, serving as the first Hyundai SUV to feature the Pleos Connect operating system. Built on an Android-based architecture, the system includes Gleo AI, a large language model voice assistant designed to handle natural speech queries, schedule planning, and vehicle settings. The dashboard is dominated by a 17-inch or 12.9-inch 16:9 touchscreen, significantly reducing physical buttons in favor of digital control.
Safety and Market Positioning
Hyundai has prioritized safety technology, introducing pedal misapplication assist as standard across all trims—a direct response to recent traffic incidents in Korea. Other notable features include memory reverse assist, which tracks the path into a space to automate exiting, and door-unlock power backup that ensures accessibility even if the main battery is disconnected. An adventure-focused XRT trim has also been introduced, featuring specialized cladding and standard HTRAC all-wheel drive. As Hyundai prepares to launch the vehicle globally in the fourth quarter, the industry is watching to see whether European markets will receive the full 4,700 mm body or a localized shorter version, a strategy that previously influenced regional market share.
