TEL AVIV (Azat TV) – The Israeli Ministry of Defense, in close coordination with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA), has successfully completed a major launch test of its advanced Arrow Weapon System. Described by Israeli defense officials as a “groundbreaking” milestone, the trial evaluated critical upgrades designed to preserve Israel’s technological superiority and bolster its multi-tiered air defense network against sophisticated regional ballistic threats.

The undisclosed live-fire test was led by the Israeli Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) alongside the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). Senior U.S. MDA officials and representatives actively participated in the event, reinforcing the deep strategic and technological defense partnership between Washington and Tel Aviv.

A Key Milestone in High-Altitude Interception

While the Israeli defense establishment chose not to publicly disclose the specific parameters of the test or identify which interceptor model—the Arrow 2 or the Arrow 3—was launched, a senior defense official confirmed following an initial assessment that “everything we wanted to test worked perfectly.” The Arrow family serves as the highest layer of Israel’s defense grid, which also includes David’s Sling, the Iron Dome, and the laser-based Iron Beam system currently under development.

Over the past three years, the Arrow system has been heavily utilized to counter ballistic missile attacks launched from Iran and Yemen, achieving multiple successful interceptions outside the Earth’s atmosphere. According to military sources, during intense combat operations, the Arrow 3 system demonstrated its high reliability by successfully intercepting a vast majority of incoming ballistic threats, demonstrating the real-world operational maturity of the platform.

Defense Minister Israel Katz praised the success of the trial, stating, “Today’s Arrow system test is further proof of the strength of Israel’s defense establishment, its defense industries, and its technological capabilities. The Arrow system has proven itself in war, successfully intercepting numerous threats from Iran and other arenas and protecting Israel’s citizens.”

Industrial Collaboration and Advanced AI Integration

The development of the Arrow Weapon System is a collaborative effort involving several prominent defense contractors. IAI serves as the prime contractor through its Systems, Missiles & Space Group, while its ELTA Group is responsible for the system’s Green Pine and Super Green Pine radar arrays. Elbit Systems developed the advanced fire-control system, and key interceptor components are manufactured by subcontractors including Tomer, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, and the U.S.-based STARK Aerospace.

According to IMDO Director Moshe Patel, the newly tested configurations represent a significant technological leap. “In these new developments, we incorporated advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, the application of combat lessons, and a move into automated manufacturing,” Patel remarked, noting that the test marks a vital step toward the continuous equipping of the IDF’s Air Defense Command, which operates the system in the field.

Transitioning to Emergency Manufacturing and the Arrow 4 Horizon

The successful test comes as Israel’s defense ministry shifts its strategic priorities toward long-term weapons independence and accelerated production. Ministry Director General Maj. Gen. (Res.) Amir Baram emphasized that Israel remains in “emergency mode,” actively scaling up industrial manufacturing capabilities to replenish and expand its interceptor stockpiles following decisions made over the past year.

“This groundbreaking Arrow test puts into practice the core pillars of the Israel Ministry of Defense’s strategy: staying ahead technologically by developing ‘the next surprises,’ and strengthening Israel’s weapons independence,” Baram stated. He noted that the data collected during the test will directly feed into the engineering pipeline for future defense layers.

Concurrently, IAI is accelerating development on the Arrow 4, an endo-exo atmospheric interceptor designed to eventually replace the aging Arrow 2 system. The Arrow 4 is engineered to counter highly sophisticated, maneuverable ballistic threats. The program’s commercial and strategic viability is already drawing international attention; Germany, which recently finalized a historic $7 billion purchase of the Arrow 3 system to anchor European air defense, is considered a prime potential customer for the upcoming Arrow 4 variant as well.
