Former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson has released an emotional trailer for her upcoming Amazon Prime documentary, Jesy Nelson: Life Changing, set to premiere on July 17, 2026. The film chronicles her journey as a single mother and her high-profile advocacy for the reform of UK newborn screening laws following her twin daughters’ diagnosis with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1.

The Advocacy Gap

In January 2026, Nelson revealed that her one-year-old twins, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, had been diagnosed with the severe genetic neuromuscular disorder. Since the diagnosis, the singer has leveraged her public platform to petition for mandatory newborn blood spot screening for SMA. While a petition led by Nelson garnered over 150,000 signatures, prompting UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting to confirm that screenings would begin in October 2026, the current plan covers only 72% of newborns. Nelson is now campaigning for 100% national coverage, arguing that early intervention is critical for children with the condition.

A Raw Look at SMA

The documentary provides an intimate view of the daily challenges faced by children living with SMA, which causes progressive muscle weakness, respiratory difficulties, and mobility issues. In the trailer, Nelson reflects on the life-altering nature of the diagnosis, stating, “Early diagnosis can change EVERYTHING. I’ll keep saying it until no family has to experience this again.” The film captures the singer’s personal transition to life as a single parent, following her separation from fiancé Zion Foster earlier this year, while navigating the complexities of specialized medical care for her daughters.
