Kohli achieved the feat in his 303rd ODI innings, reaching the landmark 74 innings faster than Tendulkar, who took 377 innings to reach the same figure and finished his career with 18,426 runs.
“My focus has never really been on these milestones,” Kohli said after the match. “It’s just understanding the situation along the course of just doing the job for the team. Achievements come along. Obviously, I feel very grateful and very blessed to be in this position for having played for so long.”
The milestone arrived with a boundary off Alzarri Joseph before a raucous home crowd at Thiruvananthapuram. Kohli eventually sealed the match with his ninth six, capping off an 88-ball masterclass that cemented his status as the format’s leading century-maker.
World Cup Horizon and Retirement Plans

“For me, it’s the last World Cup I’m going to play for India,” Al Jazeera reported Kohli saying. “The intensity of a 50-over World Cup is greater than anything… I know what my goal is, and yeah, it’s pretty clear for me that whatever games we get, I just need to keep working on different aspects of the game.”
