A Triple-Gold Sweep at Trials

Australian distance freestyle standout Lani Pallister has officially secured her place on the national squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Her selection follows a dominant display at the Australian Swimming Trials at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, where she claimed victory in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle events.

Pallister closed out the trials on Saturday with a commanding performance in the 1500m freestyle, clocking 15:40.01. This result marks the second-fastest time of her career, confirming her continued form as she transitions to training under coach Dean Boxall. The time remains significantly ahead of international competition, reinforcing her status as a primary gold-medal contender for the upcoming Games.

Building the Commonwealth Squad

The 42-strong Australian team, announced Saturday night, features a mix of seasoned veterans and 14 debutants. According to official selection reports, Pallister will lead the freestyle contingent alongside Mollie O’Callaghan, Meg Harris, and Shayna Jack. Australia, which captured 25 gold medals in swimming at the 2022 Birmingham Games, is looking to maintain its historical dominance in the pool.

While her position on the team is set, Pallister is reportedly mulling her specific program for Glasgow. Having proven her versatility across the freestyle distance range, she remains a cornerstone of the Australian strategy to build upon their 2022 success, where the nation’s women’s team won 14 of the 15 freestyle events contested.
