Hong Kong actor Lawrence Ng has officially entered the AI film industry, confirming that he has licensed his likeness from two decades ago to a production company. The 62-year-old actor, speaking at a promotional event for his latest crime drama, Deadly Sins, revealed that he has already reviewed the final product and is satisfied with the results.
According to 8Days, the technology allows the production team to recreate Ng’s 20-year-old appearance for a feature film without the actor needing to be physically present on set for those specific sequences. Ng emphasized that the arrangement is secured by a comprehensive contract, mitigating concerns regarding potential misuse of his digital identity.
Addressing industry fears about AI replacing human talent, Ng adopted an optimistic stance. He characterized the move as a new income stream rather than a threat to his profession. “In the future, I can just sit there without filming anything and still get the job done,” he joked, noting that the financial compensation for the licensing agreement is significant.
Ng expressed confidence that AI-generated performances and traditional acting can coexist within the entertainment industry. For the veteran actor, the technology offers a pragmatic solution to career longevity, ensuring he remains a viable “lead” regardless of physical limitations.
