A New Chapter in MLS
Robert Lewandowski is set to continue his storied career in the United States, with reports confirming the 37-year-old striker has reached a two-year agreement with Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire. The move follows his departure from FC Barcelona, where his contract expired at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal is expected to be finalized early next week. The transfer marks a significant coup for the Chicago Fire, whose head coach and director of football, Gregg Berhalter, has been aggressively pursuing the Polish captain to serve as a cornerstone of the club’s roster.
From Camp Nou to Chicago
Lewandowski leaves Barcelona after four seasons, a tenure that included helping the Catalan side secure a La Liga title. Despite facing injury challenges and questions regarding his age, he remained a potent offensive threat under Hansi Flick in his final campaign. The striker reportedly visited Chicago recently to tour the facilities and discuss the club’s long-term vision before committing to the move.
The signing is the latest in a series of high-profile acquisitions for MLS, following the arrivals of global stars like Lionel Messi, Thomas Muller, and Son Heung-Min in recent years. For Chicago, the addition of the prolific forward—who boasts 89 goals in 167 appearances for Poland—is expected to bolster the team’s standing as they compete for the Eastern Conference title and prepare for the opening of the new McDonald’s Park in 2028.
