New Derivatives Market Structure
Robinhood has officially integrated crypto-based prediction markets into its platform, enabling users to trade on specific price outcomes for major digital assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin. These event contracts, offered through Robinhood Derivatives, LLC, utilize infrastructure supported by recent acquisitions, including the integration of assets from the former MIAXdx, a CFTC-licensed derivatives clearing organization.
Unlike traditional spot trading, these markets function as binary event contracts. Users stake capital on whether an asset’s price will fall within a specific range or exceed a defined threshold at a predetermined time. For example, recent contracts were structured around price targets for Ethereum and Bitcoin at 9:00 PM EDT on August 30, 2026.
Data Integrity and Settlement
A critical component of these prediction markets is the reliance on verifiable, third-party data to prevent market manipulation. Robinhood utilizes the Real Time Index (RTI) provided by CF Benchmarks. According to the platform’s technical documentation, the final settlement price is determined by averaging 60 distinct RTI prices collected in the final minute before contract expiration.
Payouts are typically processed within one hour of the event resolution. However, the platform enforces strict trading prohibitions: employees of the source agencies and individuals possessing material, non-public information regarding the underlying assets are barred from participating in these specific contracts.
Institutional Context and Financial Stakes
The expansion into prediction markets marks a strategic shift for Robinhood Markets, Inc. (NASDAQ: HOOD). Following the January 2026 acquisition of MIAXdx, the firm has moved to diversify its revenue streams. Analysts at Bernstein have noted that revenue derived from these prediction markets is expected to become a significant contributor to the company’s financial performance, potentially challenging the growth trajectory of its traditional cryptocurrency trading services.
The platform remains highly regulated, with users required to acknowledge the significant risks associated with futures and derivatives trading. Robinhood emphasizes that these instruments are not suitable for all investors, urging users to evaluate their personal financial circumstances before engaging in event-based speculation.
