New Digital Functionality for Arrivals
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore announced on Sept 16 that the enhanced Singapore Arrival Card (SGAC) will be integrated into the MyICA mobile application starting Sept 30. This update marks a transition for the enhanced card, which was initially introduced via the ICA website on Aug 26, to a more accessible mobile format.
The ICA advised that travellers must update their MyICA app prior to their travel date to ensure the new features are available. This requirement extends to those who rely on the app to generate QR codes for immigration clearance at land checkpoints, ensuring that the digital transition remains consistent across all entry points.
Enhanced Features and Multilingual Support
The updated SGAC, as reported by AsiaOne, introduces a significant expansion in language accessibility. The arrival card is now available in 19 languages, adding Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Dutch, Filipino, Italian, Russian, and Spanish to the existing options. This expansion aims to reduce barriers for international visitors by providing a more user-friendly interface.
Furthermore, the app now includes a passport scanning feature that allows for the automatic filling of traveller information. Previously, this functionality was primarily available to foreign nationals; with this update, Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and long-term pass holders can also utilize the scan-to-fill feature. This is designed to streamline the submission process, serving as an alternative to the existing “retrieve with passport” and “retrieve with visa reference number” methods.
Compliance and Scope
The SGAC remains a mandatory health and arrival declaration for most travellers entering the country. The requirement applies to Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and long-term pass holders. Exceptions are limited to transit passengers who do not clear immigration and residents travelling via land checkpoints at Woodlands and Tuas.
By migrating these features to the MyICA app, the authorities aim to create a more seamless experience for users. The ICA has emphasized that the refreshed design offers smoother navigation, reflecting an ongoing effort to digitize border clearance processes and improve compliance through increased convenience.
