A Jordanian national identified as a person of interest in the murder of 43-year-old American expat Jamey Carney has been arrested in his home country, according to reports from Irish media. The suspect, whose name has not been officially released by Irish police, was detained by Jordan’s Public Security Directorate within the last 48 hours.

Carney, a New York native who had been living in Ireland since 2021, was found dead in her Killarney home by her 13-year-old daughter on Tuesday. Investigators believe she died from suffocation after sustaining head injuries. Police suspect the incident occurred the previous evening.

Reports indicate the man fled Ireland shortly after the incident, traveling by bus to Dublin before boarding a flight to Istanbul. He had reportedly been residing in Ireland since 2024 and had been involved in a relationship with the victim. While Irish police confirmed they are aware of the arrest in Jordan, they stated they have not yet issued a formal request for extradition, noting that no formal treaty exists between Ireland and Jordan.

The FBI has stated it remains ready to assist Irish authorities through its Legal Attaché in London if requested. The investigation continues, with Irish police maintaining their focus on the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s departure and his prior immigration status in Ireland.
